The Narragansett Historical Society was a busy place this past summer!  The teas were a rousing success and special programs were held throughout the season.

In May, Harry Aldrich was instrumental in helping to honor the NRHS Class of 1958 at this year’s 50th graduation at the school.  In early June, we held an Open House; in July, the Society hosted an Ice Cream Social following the reading of the Declaration of Independence at the First Church and held a Civil War Re-enactment for children, which was lead by Historical Happenings proprietor Kathy Matson and her family. And in August, Shirley Barnes and Debbie Henshaw brought Lee’s Hotdog Stand to the Society in a fundraising effort for the Society.

This fall, the Society is also planning a busy season.  At September’s meeting, a presentation of the trophy for the town’s 1938 Baseball team will be presented to the society.  Also in September, the Society will open on Saturdays with a special exhibit on the history of the town’s schools and tours of the building and grange.

Then in October, Kerry Bettez is working on the annual Ghost Walk with Joyce Provencher and her workers providing soup and crackers following the performances; in November, the Society is planning to open on the Saturday before election day with a special exhibit and display of its newest donation box, the town’s own Ballot Box with ballots from the Dewey/Truman ticket.  And in December, the Society expects to host its annual Cookie Sale and holiday raffle at the Society, providing hot chocolate and coffee before and after the town’s annual tree lighting event.
